Money-saving load-measurement sensor

COREM - Broyeur miniature

A collaborative project with COREM

Investissement Québec - CRIQ and the Consortium of applied research for the processing and transformation of mineral substances (COREM) collaborated to develop a load-measurement sensor—the only one of its kind in the world—to reduce energy consumption during the ore-grinding process.

Ore grinding is an energy intensive process used to crush stone and liberate valuable ore particles within. To achieve the best possible yield, an optimal and consistent stone load must be fed into the grinder. To this end, Investissement Québec - CRIQ and COREM designed an instrumented bolt to continuously measure the quantity and distribution of ore load entering the huge rotary grinders. Tests confirm the performance and durability of the final product.

Mining companies will reap clear benefits from this energy-saving improvement in ore processing. This marks a real step forward for the industry on its path to sustainable development.

“Thanks to our fruitful collaboration with CRIQ, we succeeded in transforming
our prototype into a sensor that meets industry standards.”
